Governmental Affairs Department

A key benefit of your membership in the New Orleans Association of REALTORS® is governmental oversight and initiatives that protect and enhance your business. NOMAR,as well as the Louisiana REALTORS® Association and the National Association of REALTORS® maintain a full time professionalstaffthat aggressively insures your voice is heard. In the Governmental Affairs Department, we monitor legislation from sixparishes: Jefferson, Orleans, Plaquemine, St. Bernard, St. Tammany, Tangipohoa. Our department helps you keep abreast of what regulations affect you locally. We attend many meetings in all of these parishes, sit on a number of committees to assure that the REALTORS® image is looked upon as a pro-active group. We have taken position on issues that have sometimes been not favorable to all of our members, but as REALTORS® we need to look at how it affects the whole association.

MARPAC

MARPAC stands for Metropolitan Association of REALTORS® Political Action Committee. MARPAC collects money into one political fund and then, guided by strict formula, splits the money to support candidates and issues. MARPAC is a voluntary, non-profit group of Louisiana REALTORS® interested in preserving private property rights.
How does MARPAC work when it relates to issues?
When a REALTOR® identifies a real estate-related public issue, he or she should contact a MARPAC trustee, the Local Board or the Governmental Affairs Director and submit the specific information on that issue.
If the issue affects the real estate industry statewide, the trustees will consider funding a program to promote the REALTOR® position on that issue. If the issue affects only the area within a Board's jurisdiction.

Political Creed

I am a free citizen in a free nation. Whoever diminishes my freedom as an individual diminishes the sum total of freedom in the my country. These things being true, I cannot- I will not- stand idly by when these hard-won freedom are under attack. For I believe that the values upon which this country was founded are immutable and have not been eroded by the passage of years. I believe that I, as a free citizen in a free land, am obligated to defend my beliefs in the ways permitted to me, and required of me, by our form of government. Therefore, let no man seek to bar me from the political process, for it would be akin to denying my right to participate in the process that determines free government.
